With the Halloween season approaching I’ve been inclined to do a few shoots with dark themes. I’ve had ideas of the Grim Reaper but make him female. So I have a young lady, Kathleen Murray from Guthrie, OK, in a hooded cloak with a staff. Making the Reaper sexy. F.Y.I. Did you know that in old Slavic tribes they viewed Death as a woman in white clothes, with a never-fading green sprout in her hand. The touch of the sprout would put a human to an everlasting sleep. This image survived Christianization well into the Middle Ages, only being replaced by the more traditional European image of a walking skeleton as late as in the 15th century…Thought I would drop that tidbit on you.
I wanted to have vampires in some of the photos. Not the teenage vampires from Twilight but mature still in their prime and to be feared but settled yet enticing. I have another lady puts me in the mindset of a young Elvira, the mistress of the dark. Her name is Mindy Jones from Norman, Oklahoma. She was easy to work with and fit just right.
Also, in these recent photos are outstanding local artist Blaine Mayo, Shila Negron of Ada, OK, and DeAngela Crozier of Okc.
I know that I may have crossed some lines and photographed some things considered taboo Vampires, Churches, Rosary Beads, Cemeteries, Angel of Death, the undead, etc. But it’s all art and give you a glimpse of what goes on in my mind.
